Human memory is the storage in the human brain where memory is made when neurons create new connections with each other. The human brain can be divided into 52 parts and human memory functions and storages are in several parts of the brain. There is a different type of memory in the human brain which has different types of features. Humans retrieve these memories, change existing memory or create new memory when they process information.

Human long term memory can be categorised using many aspects but most commonly the difference is declarative and non-declarative memory. Identifiable brain region is activated when a particular memory function is activated, and memory functions of memory types are different from one to another. Declarative memory is the ones which are responsible for storing facts and fact with time period and Non-declarative memory are the memory which are responsible for storing things not knowing.

Declarative memory

Declarative memory is the memory which stores our day to day activities, events, facts, etc. There are two types of declarative memory types which are semantic and episodic memory. Both types of memory are needed at the retrieval process.

Episodic memory

Episodic memory is the memory which stores data with facts and the time. There are two categories of Episodic memory which are events and episodes. Events are the things which are captured at a time of a scene and it stores the place, time, and action. Episodes are a collection of events which have a sequence. There are three stages of episodic memory which are detection, recognition and recall. Episodic memory accumulates its own experience.

Semantic memory

Semantic memory is the memory which contains the facts which are constructed over time. Semantic memory (SM) doesn’t refer to the time and the place it happens.. Objects are linked which are the same or same context and update the memory is done by SM. The Episodic memories are translated to semantic memory over time.

Non-declarative memory

Non-declarative memory is the memory which is responsible for storing things you do not know. Ex: — habits, learnings, priming.
